Have you ever wondered what the best wood for an Acoustic Guitar, perhaps? I am not a luthier, but recently did a little research of my own may help shed light on the subject.
I found that the dynamic response of an acoustic guitar and the sound that the product is determined by wood density and the overall construction of the instrument itself.
Logically, no? But did you know that sound travels faster through the forest and more slower than others? This little effect overall tone or "color" of a particular acoustic guitar.
Perhaps you have noticed you if you have compared the sound of a guitar with others. For example, a guitar can sound bright and clear, and the other warm and humid.
Many guitarists know that Sitka spruce is most common wood used for construction of the face (above) of an acoustic guitar. The wood at high speed produces clear and bright tone, with a dynamic response wide.
The spruce, however, is heavier. That grain is the most rigid of all wood used for building acoustic guitars high. This special feature produced the greatest volume with more complex harmonics. Probably this is a preferred choice for steel string players acoustic guitar. Everything Bluegrass guitarists actually know where You Can download and Rip It Up!
Brazilian Rosewood has often been considered as ideal for the sides and back of an acoustic guitar. Not only are produced rich sounds, the natural qualities of reverberation and clarity of wonderful, which also has a beautiful appearance. However, due to strong demand for this product, Brazilian rosewood has become an endangered species is now protected. Obviously, this makes the wood more scarce and harder to find.
But the difficult circumstances may be the mother of invention which brings me to one of the best things I learned to do my research on wood, guitar ...
The Martin Guitar Company has developed new Model Guitar that is designed specifically to help protect the environment. This is the Martin DCE Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric. Needless to say, not cheap, but is innovative and admirable on their part to taking the initiative first. Read their own words ...
"The real star of this guitar is the quality offered by sustainable wood guitar. Wood planting and harvesting are sustainable by ethical means not promote erosion and maintain the ecosystem in its natural environment. It is no surprise to developers and users the DCE is Trey Anastasio of Phish and other environmentally conscious musicians. "
All I can say is two thumbs up for Martin Society!
Other species are also used for the back and sides are mahogany, maple and sometimes Cherry.
Mahogany is denser than those mentioned above. It is less the speed of sound, but its solid product.
Maple is also lower speed of sound and can be a bit boring when used as a cover of an acoustic guitar. Moreover, the grain is particularly interesting when used for the back. Note that the beauty and ornaments are added features that push the price higher. Maple responds well when amplified and therefore is a popular choice for electric guitars semi-invalid.
Search no specific training ice in the timber, but because it is so common, I suppose it would be more costly.
The bridge is another important factor when buying an acoustic guitar. Some would say even more importantly, because the vibration of the strings are transmitted by scraping across the bridge in his room. Then bounced inside the sound of the guitar hole.
A good bridge consist of hardwoods such as ebony, rosewood, or ash.
Above all, try stay away from laminated wood guitars as crack and separate under certain conditions. To facilitate your choice, I suggest that companies with names you know and hope that Martin Yamaha, Gibson, Takamine, and Taylor, etc. If you decide to go with a custom built guitar, make sure you know what you pay for. Always seek the quality Sound and playability of beauty first. In this way, you will have years of fun playing an instrument you really like.
