What equipment does a singer needs for stage performances and practices?

I am a singer in a punk band and have been using an old Guitar Amp to project my vocals while the guitarist uses a half-stack. I want to purchase a speaker designed for a vocalist in a band that is cheap and good for gigs and practices. I know there are PA systems but what is the point if others have their own high end amplifiers. Would a single floor monitor speaker be enough for a singer or do I need a full PA system with the two monitors and two left and right high speakers, not to mention the mixer.

Speakers aren't going to help in projecting your vocals. You need an amp to power the speakers. If You Can hear yourself through your guitar amp, then so be it. For stage purposes, you'll most likely be playing at a venue that has a PA. I've never played anywhere that didn't have there own PA. I would just bring your own mic and ask to use that... you never know who has herpes, and if there lip touches the mic or something.

A PA system would be idea for practices though, so you'll be able to hear your voice and control it better, and know more or less how you're going to sound on stage. PA systems are made for vocalists, and there are high end PA's, so that's the point of having them when your guitar player has a high end amp.

The only time you'll need a PA of your own is for some outdoor uses and parties... so it's always nice to have one for practice, so you know how to use it. You don't need anything special though. They make them for a couple hundo now.

My band uses an old bass amp, and an old keyboard amp that we linked together with an old ABY switcher.
