What's the purpose of the 5th hole on a guitar's neck?
I've always wondered - why is there an additional, wider hole at the centre of the 4 screws used to secure an Electric Guitar's neck to the body?
I've seen it on many guitars - sometimes it' runs right through the body, hidden only by the neck plate. What's it for?
The hole your referring to fine tune the adjustment of the neck. There is a screw inside that hole that tilts neck back and forth length-wise for necks requiring a more radical adjustment to get the strings low enough. You Can also use the screw adjustment to raise the string-height for slide use.
