What bands had a drastic sound change once a member died?
Y'know, like Metallica. Many argue that Cliff Burton helped keep the band at their roots, and writing awesome music!
Another one I know of is Ozzy Osbourne. Without Randy Rhoads, it sounded way different to me.
And Chicago. After Terry Kath died, they really started to take the turn into cheesy love ballads like "You're the Inspiration"
Any others You Can come up with?

Yeah Terry was an amazing guitarist.
But I am being biased by picking my #2 favorite, Randy Rhoads

J/K... hehehe. Darth beat me to Keith Moon. One oddity about that, though: After they lost their 2nd band member, John Entwistle, they came back with the best album they had made in over 30 years. Kinda worked backward the 2nd time around.
Anyway, I'm gonna say.....
The Allman Bros. I think they outright sucked without Duane Allman.
Lynyrd Skynyd. I don't even undersyand why they went on after the plane crash... it was just bizarre.
BA: Terry Kath. A lot of the youngsters don't know how good the man was.
