Lessons Learned From Being Dumped

If you've been involved in one or more relationships in your lifetime then it is likely that you have been "dumped" at one time or another. I certainly have - more times than I care to remember. Some of those breakups were more painful than others. The good side of those breakups is that they have caused me to grow, learn and mature from the experiences. The same can work for you. Here are my lessons learned from being dumped.

First lesson: It takes two people to end a relationship. It is easy to blame the other person for the breakup if they were the one that wanted to breakup. Truth be told, if the relationship wasn't working you were part of the problem. Honestly evaluate the situation to determine what you may have done to contribute to the breakup. Use this information to better your next relationship.

Second lesson: Don't be possessive. Both men and women need there personal space at times. You don't need to know where your partner is every second of every day. This becomes smothering and high maintenance. It drains the life out of a relationship. If one of you has cheated in the past this becomes even harder to do because now there are serious trust issues. You have to get past it. By not giving a person their personal space you are basically telling them you don't trust them. This will likely end the relationship.

Third lesson: You will get stonger in time. The pain from a breakup can be overwhelming. It may seem like you will never recover or be able to move on with your life. Each and every day that You Can get through brings you one step closer to healing. In the end you will have grown from the experience and be a stronger person.

Fourth lesson: It wasn't meant to be. If you've entered a relationship that you were hopeful would lead to something long-term but instead it ended consider this a good thing. If you had been fantasizing about spending the rest of your life with this person, marriage, kids, etc you are better off that it ended before those things happened. If you weren't right for each other then it is much easier to end things now before the relationship went to those levels.

Fifth lesson: You can control your future. You may not be able to control what happened in this previous relationship. What's done is done. If you want good things to happen to you in the future you have to make them happen. Meaning, you can't control what happened but you can control how you react to what happened. Take the positive approach and you will come out on top.
