Shore Fishing Tips

Shore fishing techniques depend on the species you are trying to catch. Fall presents a great opportunity for you to land everything including bass, crappie, catfish, trout, and more. Needless to say, you will be busy. Here are some shore fishing techniquest to help you catch more fish.

Bass: Grab your self a bag of Gary Yamamoto "Yamasenkos" in Green Pumpkin or Pumpkinseed color. 5" is a good size. You will need to buy a pack of 3/0 EWG Worm Hooks with an "Offset Shank". You can buy them at any fishing store. Good brands are Gamakatzu and Lazer Sharp by Eagle. Many anglers, including me, like to hook their Yamasenkos "wacky" style, meaning right through the middle of the worm. They sell special "wacky hooks" just for this occasion at Cabelas. Just cast the worm into the water, let it sink, and twitch the end of your fishing rod. Bass can't handle it, and will jump on them. Don't be afraid to let them take the bait for a couple seconds before setting the hook as they need time to engulf the whole worm.

Crappie: They sell a plethora of crappie jigs, spinners, and even live maggots at the tackle shop. If you don't mind getting your hands dirty, you are better off with the live bait. If you do mind, you can buy plastic maggots, that smell a bit like licorice, and catch them that way. Again, nothing can beat a live bait. You will need to buy yourself a crappie rig, including a bobber, swivel, bobber stop, jigs, and bait. Ask your local tackle shop for help. If you live in the Coeur d'Alene area, check out Fins 'N Feathers on Sherman. They give you great advice and will have you set up in no time.

Catfish: Catfish are great for night-time fishing. You can see the catfish anglers lining the shores with their lanterns at Hauser all the time. Plus, the rigs are simple. Some fishermen like to set their bait a foot or so off the bottom, but if you want to have an easy rig set up, just laying your bait on the bottom will work. Now for the bait. I love to use chicken livers. You can buy them for cheap at the store, and a little pricier at the bait shop. Some people use hot dogs, live worms, even dog food. Catfish pickup garbage on the bottom all day long, so they are pretty indescriminate. Make sure you watch the palm of your hand when pulling them out of the water, because they will spine you if they get the chance.

Trout: This is a great gamefish to fish for from shore. Check out Fernan Lake, Hauser, Hayden, Priest and Pend Oreille for some great trout fishing. Trout in the early fall pattern will bite on Mepps Aglia Spinners, which can be purchased at basically any shore including Wal-Mart. You can also catch them using Powerbait by Berkley, right off the bottom. I love the Rainbow Shebert color. Be very careful if you decide to take trout home from Hauser, as they are almost always filled with worms. Just cast out your Powerbait, and let it sit on the bottom. You can use a bobber with a bobber stop as a marker to watch your line. A lot of anglers like to pull their bait up off the bottom about a foot in case it is garnering more bites.

Some Basic Information Regarding Glow Plugs

Glow plugs are devices similar to spark plugs which are used in igniting the fuel on small combustion engines normally utilized in Model Engine, model cars and comparable applications. Has anyone heard about the MIT adaptive robot project?

My teacher recently told me about a project at MIT where a robot, programmed without any primary function, but equipped with sensory devices (hearing, light sensory, etc,) is given human interaction from a student. Once the student has finished with his/her interaction, the lights go off and strobe lights are turned on.

One student forgot to turn on the strobe lights as he left and the next day, the robot was found moving its hands up and down over its eyes, mimicking strobe lights. The robot had been used to the lights, and adapted to them.

My teacher then explained that in the future, the robot may be able to learn to speak and pick up memory functions, much like an infant gains memory as it learns a language. Has anyone heard about this project? I would like to learn more about it.

MIT has a variety of robot projects including neuronets that learn and many others. They are happy to talk about their stuff, which has appeared on Nova and various Discovery channel shows and you can wander through various sites by entering a web search with 'MIT robot research' adding other words like adaptive.

What strings should I use to restring my concert ukulele?

Sadly, I just broke the A string on my concert ukulele. I got my uke a short while ago so I'm still fairly inexperienced. After searching around on the internet, I'm a little confused about the different types/tunings/what's compatible with what. I found these "D'Addario Pro Arte J92 Concert Ukulele Strings" on Amazon, but in the product description it says that the set is for tenor ukulele? And they're made from Classical Guitar String gauges? Help! What strings should I get?

Don't put anything on your concert ukulele except strings that are designed for a concert ukulele! The size matters b/c they're the right length and caliber for that size ukulele. If you use a different size you can warp the fret board or delaminate the body b/c you may use more tension than necessary just to keep it in tune. Not worth it!
If you want your ukulele to sound it's best get a set of Aquila Nylgut strings. They are by far the best strings for quality and sound. They'll make even a cheapo $30 ukulele sound good. I know b/c I have a couple. http://ukulelehunt.com/buy-ukulele/strings/aquila-ukulele-strings/ Read about them.

Repair the Power Jack on Dell ADP-90FB AC Adapter or buy new Dell ADP-90FB AC Adapter

The power jack used by Dell on all laptops is three proprietary jacks which are manufactured by Foxconn. To repair the power jack on Dell ADP-90FB AC Adapter, you have to be knowledgeable of all aspects of the assembly of the computer. If you are experienced enough to do such repairs, following the suggestions below will assist you in repairing the power jack on Dell ADP-90FB AC Adapter.
Take out the motherboard of the computer. Follow the manufacturer's directions. Desolder the Dell ADP-90FB AC Adapter power jack from your motherboard that you have already taken out from the laptop. Both the motherboard and the Dell AC Adapterpower jack have to be cleaned properly and then soldered again.
Desolder all three contacts with new solders. This will make the old solders easier to remove. Hold the Dell ADP-90FB AC Adapter power jack and carefully remove from the motherboard. When the Dell AC Adapterpower jack is successfully removed, clean the oxidized contacts with a sharp metal object. Apply a coat of solder to the contacts. Clean the laptop ac adapter power jack, and place the solders to all sides of the motherboard.
Remember, these are tips for very experienced people. If you do not know how to solder very precisely, and have a very steady hand, then do not tackle this. I am trained in computer repair, but I do not touch the soldering on the motherboard because I do not have a steady hand, nor can I control a very small soldering iron, which you need for this kind of job. One slip of the hand, folks, and a relatively cheap repair becomes a big replacement of the entire motherboard! Leave this to someone with practice and experience!
